Meet The Team

Hi, I’m Mara! (They/Them)

a white skinned femme person, looking straight at the camera from the shoulders up making a funny face. they have side shaved pink hair, glasses, a lip piercing and septum pircing

Full Moon was an idea- a goal- that came to me in an ah-ha moment- which still seems weird to me. I was born in North Carolina and spent most of my my life there. The first time I saw a spirit was when I was 4 years old, seeing my great grandmother and speaking with her, only a few hours after her death. I found witchcraft when I was 12 and Fat Liberation when I was 24.

I grew up fat and had an ED for about a decade before finding Fat Liberation and becoming an activist in 2010. I started local modeling and created the Fat Girl Posing blog. In 2011 I created The Triangle Fatties, a local meetup group in Greensboro NC, and, in 2012, created the Fat Naked Art project which took me to NYC where I met the amazing Cat Pause, who posed for FNAP. She brought me a keychain of New Zealand and she will always be missed deeply. While in NYC, I was able to model for Substantia Jones for The Adipositivity Project! (That was, and still is, the greatest honor!) I also was one of the many contributors to Fierce Freethinking Fatties, by Shannon Russel. I’ve given workshops on fat liberation, attended conferences, made wonderful friends, was on the Friend of Marilyn podcast a couple of times, After becoming less able bodied, I was active online, trying to carry on the activism. I created Fat Acceptance Cloud on Facebook and, years later, hopped on the TikTok wagon as Glorifying Obesity. I will be moving to Portland, Oregon with my wife and kid in 2023. My goal is to be a member of the communities around me.

I’m also married, a parent, vegetarian since 1999 and vegan since 2009, dog and cat rescue parent, photographer, gardener, and fashion enthusiast.

I’m Queer (Demisexual representation!), Nonbinary, Polyamorous, Disabled, Mentally ill, Autistic, and always finding myself.

Hey, My name is Clara (She/Her)

Wife of Mara, parent, and a trans woman, I’m a big part of the support crew, helping where I’m needed. Helping on the website, carrying boxes of wax, or picking up supply orders. I’m the most pragmatic of the team and also a programmer with my own fledgling gaming company, Stone Bird Games, which I’m working on with my kid. I always feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day.

Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, I taught myself coding at 13. I was always really interested in technology and computers and, in my early 20’s, was able to dive into coding as a career. Soon after, Mara and I moved to North Carolina, where I lived for longer than the town I grew up in. The cishet male dominated industry made it hard to come out as queer or as trans, but being in conservative areas didn’t help much either.

I’m less of a social butterfly and more of a social moth. I’m okay around people, but a little quieter. In fact, yes, my spouse is writing this because I’m not great at talking about myself.

I’m also queer, trans (as I already said!), polyamorous, neurodivergent, in perpetual autistic burn out at the moment, mentally ill, and a smallfat woman who’s newer to the intersection of fatness of misogyny, but I’ve been alongside Mara through the past 15 years of their fat liberation activism.

Hi, I’m Karina! (She/They)

Hey, I’m Karina- I have no idea what I should say here, but “should” isn’t my wheelhouse anyway. I grew up in Arizona, but I consider North Carolina my home. I’m loud, talk a lot, laugh a lot, and I’m finally starting to realize that all of that is fine and just a part of being myself (my sense of humor was wasted when I was growing up!) I love meeting other people who are ADHD and autistic like I am so that we can bond through info dumping and talking about our special interests. (Mine are social justice, trauma/psychology, crafting, and makeup)

I grew up in a border town in Arizona and learned to speak Spanish early. I also saw the inequities, the injustices, the outright racism, xenophobia, and cruelty that Mexican people faced in my town. I know that having an early look into how these things effected the people around me helped shaped my activism, which is also loud and loquacious. I was also able to grow up in a community that was feminist, queer, trans, and diverse, but didn’t find Fat Liberation until Mara and I met!

I create bath teas, love working with herbs, create with eco resins, make jewelry, and honestly will craft anything and everything that's interesting. I’m Demisexual/Pansexual, Disabled, Mentally ill, Autistic, and a fat woman.
